Per Mertesacker open to Hannover 96 return amid uncertainty over Arsenal future

Arsenal star admits he could leave to join former club

Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker admits he’s open to a move to former club Hannover 96.

The 31-year-old moved to the Emirates in 2011 from Werder Bremen but started his career at Hannover 96.
The German battled Gabriel Paulista for a starting spot next to Laurent Koscielny in Arsene Wenger’s side last season and there’s been talk that Mertesacker could leave the Emirates.

Though his departure is likely to depend on the arrival of another centre-back, Mertesacker’s opened the door to a return to former club Hannover.

‘It might be interesting for me to give something back to Hannover 96 because that was where it all began [for me],’ said Mertesacker.
