  Arsenal are leading Liverpool in the race to sign Bayern Munich forward Mario Gotze. That is according to The Sun, who say the Gunners are lining up a £27million bid for the World Cup winner. Gotze has long been linked with Liverpool and a reunion with former boss Jurgen Klopp under who he blossomed at Borussia Dortmund. But Arsenal have now joined the race and are keen on landing Gotze as Arsene Wenger plots an assault on a first Premier League title in over a decade.

  Arsenal have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Edinson Cavani after the striker reportedly signed a bumper new contract with Paris Saint-Germain. Arsenal will host Liverpool at Emirates Stadium on the opening day of the 2016/17 season on Saturday, August 13. The Gunners will then travel to King Power Stadium to take on Premier League champions Leicester City, before a trip to Watford at the end of the month. The first north London derby of the season against Tottenham will be on November 5 at the Emirates, with the return fixture at White Hart Lane on April 29. Russia face being thrown out of Euro 2016 after UEFA slapped them with a suspended disqualification and a €150,000 fine. There were running battles on the streets of Marseille before Saturday's 1-1 draw against England and trouble continued inside the stadium after full-time. Russia fans stormed England supporters at the ground following their last-gasp equaliser, forcing many to run for safety. UEFA's control, ethics and disciplinary body met in Paris to consider the case and imposed the suspended disqualification and a €150,000 financial penalty. However, any further incidents of crowd disturbance inside grounds at Russia's matches during the European Championships will see the suspension lifted and the country thrown out of Euro 2016. Manchester City have been keeping a close eye on transfer target Leroy Sane ahead of Euro 2016. The 20-year-old Schalke winger is in Germany’s squad for this summer’s European Championships, and City scouts were present for their friendly against Slovakia last Sunday. The highly-rated youngster has long been linked with a move to City, as well as other Premier League clubs, and it looks as though he could cost as much as £40million. City today confirmed the signing of Ilkay Gundogan from Borussia Dortmund, and Pep Guardiola could make Sane his second raid on the Bundesliga as he prepares to leave German champions Bayern Munich before taking over at the Etihad Stadium. Roma are closing in on securing Wojciech Szczesny on loan for another season, according to the Daily Mail. The Polish goalkeeper had a solid season in Serie A last campaign and Roma are keen on keeping him between the sticks. It was originally believed that Roma would not pay all of Szczesny's wages to keep him but they now appear prepared to do so. Roma would also have the option to buy the 26-year-old at the end of the deal.

Liverpool are hoping to land Arsenal winger Theo Walcott, according to The Sun. Walcott is believed to have held talks with Gunners boss Arsene Wenger at the end of the season over his future at the club. It is reported that Walcott could be looking for a fresh start in football and Jurgen Klopp is keen to offer him an opportunity to have that at Liverpool. As well as changing his Twitter bio to, ‘Footballer for Arsenal FC and Nigeria U20 Nike Athlete’, Nwakali confirmed that a deal had been wrapped up in an interview. ‘I just came back from London, I have signed a five-year contract with Arsenal ,’ Nwakali told All Nigeria Soccer. The young Nigerian star also tweeted the message, ‘New Life Begins @Arsenal.’ The north London outfit beat the likes of Manchester City and Bayern Munich to the teenager’s signature. The German battled Gabriel Paulista for a starting spot next to Laurent Koscielny in Arsene Wenger’s side last season and there’s been talk that Mertesacker could leave the Emirates. Though his departure is likely to depend on the arrival of another centre-back, Mertesacker’s opened the door to a return to former club Hannover. ‘It might be interesting for me to give something back to Hannover 96 because that was where it all began [for me],’ said Mertesacker.

Manchester United is delighted to announce that Eric Bertrand Bailly has completed his transfer from Villarreal CF, subject to successfully obtaining a work permit. Eric joins on a four-year contract with the option to extend for a further two years. Bailly, 22, made 47 appearances for Villarreal since joining on 29 January 2015. Arsenal are set to finally confirm the arrival of Nigerian sensation Kelechi Nwakali, according to The Sun.
